AI Animation

This was my first real dive into AI animation.
So, for anyone with AI fatigue here’s another AI assisted post about an AI render test, on a platform where most posts are about AI, written by AI. It’s basically unavoidable now and the narrative seems to be get on board or go the way of the dinosaurs.
So I tested it in my own workflow.
I dug out one of my old After Effects animations of a dinosaur and pushed it through an AI tool as a kind of render engine. This would let me keep control of the design and animation but let the AI handle the final look.
And to be fair… it worked. Sort of.
It’s faster than traditional rendering but unpredictable. As soon as you add complexity, things start to break. Small changes throw everything off, which makes client feedback tricky and quickly turns into trial and error rather than real control.
What I enjoy about design and animation is the craft and this removes a lot of that. The novelty of what is essentially a style transfer wears off quickly and it can start to feel like a filter rather than real creation.
There’s huge potential for sure but in my opinion it’s not quite there yet for high end work for those that appreciate the craft.
That said it does have a place in quicker, lower stakes content… like this. 🦖
